Festive Events in Seaton


Seaton was plunged into light on November 26 when Mayor Bob Buskin switched on the Christmas lights to mark the start of the town’s festive fun.

There will be a Festive Gala Night on December 17 in the town hall. Tickets, which should be bought in advance from the town council office, are £12. The event, which boasts big ‘Al and Mary Bowles, is evening dress or lounge suits. Charities Seaton Phoenix and Age Concern will benefit from the night.

Seaton Traders Association has organised a 20-foot tree with lights for Windsor gardens, The tree went up in mid November and was paid for by a £250 donation from Seaton Women’s Institute.

Seaton Tramway is organising trips to see Father Christmas on December 11, 18, 23, and 24. Children can travel to Colyton station where he awaits them in his grotto. There will be seasonal refreshments and a gift for the children, as well as some entertainment and magic. Tickets for the trip are £8 for adults and children aged four to 14, and £5 for the under fives.

The tramway is also organising birdwatching trips on December 3 and 10. These are from 10am to 12pm, and are a chance to see the winter birds on the estuary. The trips cost £7 in advance plus £2 on the day to go to the guide.
Both these events must be booked in advance so call Seaton Tramway on (01297) 20375.

Seaton and District Rotary are offering to deliver cards locally for only 15p. They have postboxes up at the Coop, Clapps Taxis and Colyton Butchers.

The Three Counties Swing Band will be playing in Seaton Town Hall on December 2. Tickets for the event, organised by Seaton and District Rotary, are available from The Wishing Well on Harbour Road, Eves Gallery on Fore Street and John Wood Estate Agents on Queen Street. The evening starts at 7.30pm. Tickets £4.

The Lions are having a Santa’s Grotto on Queen Street, in the newsagent Queen Street News, on Saturday, December 3 from 11am to 2.30pm.

• On the same day there is also a morning table-top sale from 10am to 12.30pm in the town hall.

• A newly spruced-up Santa’s sleigh will visit Seaton, Colyford, Colyton and Beer from December 6 for two weeks.

The Lions will give further details on places and times in the Midweek Herald.

There is a New Year’s Eve Party organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Seaton Traders Association. This will be in the Seaton Town Hall from 7pm to 1am. Tickets, which cost £20, are available from Trotters and the Sweet Shop.
There will be various entertainment, the profits go into next year’s Christmas fund for lights.
