WITH its “biggest ever” procession, Newton Poppleford Carnival was a great night.
Carnival committee chairman Roger Hart said dry weather and a decent crowd made the event on Saturday a success.
“I guess it was the biggest procession we have had, certainly the most floats we have had and the largest,” he said. “There were no problems along the route and the street collection raised around £800.”
This will help pay for the carnival and boost coffers of organisations that helped collect.
Best float in the procession went to Sidvale CC’s Brazilia, while a new Spirit of Carnival Cup; presented by Alan Irish in memory of his wife Pam, who was a long-standing carnival secretary, went to Degreased by Hillside Garage, Honiton.
Pebbleford WI’s Silver Surfers float won best local entry and Newton Poppleford Primary won first with Heroes and Heroines.
