Temperatures will dip into minus figures by the end of this week according to the Met Office.

By Sunday, the Met Office predicts the weather to dip to -1 degrees in Bolton, plunging the borough back into the coldness.

Today will see highs of just three degrees, while tomorrow and Wednesday will see six, and Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be at five and four.

Snow is also predicted at some point this month as experts warn the cold is here to stay.

Jason Kelly is a Met Office Chief Forecaster. He said: "It will become rather cold this week with lower-than-average temperatures across much of the UK, accentuated by brisk easterly winds in the south.

“As the prevailing weather conditions will be characterised by high pressure, a good deal of settled weather is likely.

The Bolton News:

"Clearer skies and a marked reduction in precipitation are expected, although any showers that do occur are likely to be wintry in nature.

"A combination of overnight freezing temperatures, saturated ground and calm winds mean increasing risks of frost, fog and icy conditions.”

Colder temperatures are on the way yet for Bolton as the Met Office predicts the weather will firmly be in the low one and minus temps for next week.

Steven Keates is a Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster. He said: “The colder conditions across the UK are likely to be established for some time and will be a key theme of next week’s weather.

"However, the beginning of next week is likely to see the lowest temperatures of this colder spell, and by the end of next week we should start to see a gradual rise in values, at least for a time."

The Met Office adds that from January 20 “colder weather is more likely to dominate” and has the potential to bring “more widespread snow to parts of the UK”.
