Sidmouth Film Society is putting on a special showing of the 1946 classic A Matter of Life and Death at the Radway Cinema on Sunday, February 25.

It's an opportunity to enjoy what's been described as one of the best ever British films, in digital format, on the cinema's excellent screen.

The story concerns a plucky RAF pilot facing certain death as he prepares to jump without a parachute from his stricken aircraft. Before he jumps, he radios in his position and gets chatting to the American woman on operator duty, and they form an instant bond. A bond that might just save his life...

Martin Jenning-Wright from Sidmouth Film Society said: "A Matter of Life and Death is that rare thing - a film that totally lives up to, and exceeds, its sky-high reputation. Anybody who loves a great story told with visionary direction and delightful acting will love this film.

"Overall, it's a chance to enjoy not just peerless filmmaking, but also the last word in incredibly neat little moustaches, on the stiff upper lip of the fabulous Mr Niven.

"If you consider yourself a film fan, it's hugely important that you see this film. A matter of life and death? To quote Bill Shankly, it's much more serious than that."

The screening starts at 7pm. Tickets are available to all for £5 downstairs, £6 upstairs. To book, visit https://sidmouth.scottcinemas.co.uk/film/a-matter-of-life-and-death.
