Devon Eco Boutique in Ottery St Mary has added to its array of awards with an accolade from Biz Bubble, an organisation representing the UK’s small businesses.

The shop was named ‘best biz on the high street’ – a category for ‘businesses with a physical premises on the high street, businesses that contribute something extraordinary to their local area’.

It brings the number of awards won by the business to 12 in under three years. The company won four awards as Eco Baby Box, and the other eight since expanding and rebranding as Devon Eco Boutique.

The Biz Bubble winners were announced in an online video on March 28 by Natasha Francis of the BBC’s The Bidding Room and Urban Vintage Affair.

Nicci Simpson, the owner of Devon Eco Boutique, said: “I'm thrilled. I had to rewind the announcement back just to double check.

“In store we have so much more to offer compared to our early days. I enjoy looking back and seeing just how far we have come. We are really proud to be part of the amazing community of Ottery - there is a lovely mix of independent businesses here and I hope that inspires more people to come and enjoy what's on offer.”

Nicci opened Eco Baby Box in September 2021, selling environment-friendly ethical products for babies and small children. Last year she branched out into selling a wider range of lifestyle products, including jewellery and homewares, and renamed the business Devon Eco Boutique.

The company has been winning awards on a regular basis since it started out. In January Nicci was named among 100 inspiring female business leaders across the UK as part of the f:entrepreneur Campaign, part of Small Business Britain.

In February Devon Eco Boutique was joint winner in the Green/Eco category of the Jurassic Business Awards.
