A pumpkin weighing 272 pounds won the top prize at the annual pumpkin show in Beer at the end of September.

Prizes went to Eli and Trevor Postin for the overall heaviest pumpkin, to Steve Somers for the heaviest grown in Beer (138lbs), to Steve Ward for the best shaped, and Mike Hawkins for the biggest marrow, which weighed 60lbs.

A children’s competition for the best decorated vegetables was won by William and Elena Adkin in the under-six category, and Bella Wigham in the seven-and-over class.

The winning adult exhibit was by Nichola Burley.

The show’s annual auction raised £529.

Part of the money will go to
Puffins Playgroup, and the rest
will help the Beer 2014 group pay for the planned memorial avenue of 30 trees in the car park overlooking Lyme Bay.

It will be dedicated to the 28 men from Beer who died in World War One, with the other two trees in memory of all those from the village who served during the conflict.
