A garden produce show in Sidbury, including a collection of giant vegetables, raised £760 for the Devon Air Ambulance.

The village has strong connections with the Air Ambulance, because the charity was founded by local woman Ann Thomas after she lost her son Ceri in a car accident in Sidbury in 1986. Many supporters came along to the show.

The Sidbury Fun Veg and Flower Show was held at the Red Lion pub on Saturday, August 25. The money was raised through entry fees, an auction of the produce, and the landlady’s brother shaving his head for £160. The cheque was presented to Devon Air Ambulance volunteer Simon Card a few weeks later.

Organiser, Suzanne Delasalle, said: “We are delighted to support Devon Air Ambulance again with our show, particularly given the association that the village has with the charity since its inception those years ago. We plan to continue to support the cause for many years to come and we are so pleased that a small village pub community can raise this sort of money.”
