A DAREDEVIL mum will take to the skies again to boost her 14-year-old son’s efforts to help others before an incurable condition robs him of the use of his arms and legs.

Pam and Todd Whitrow, of Manstone Avenue, have embarked on a mission to boost families like theirs since the Sidmouth College student was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy in 2011.

Wing walking is the next fundraising frolic for Pam, who has already taken on a sky dive.

Todd, who is confined to an electric wheelchair at school, has juggled hospital appointments with masterminding fundraising exploits and his studies. The progressive disease he suffers from causes muscles and sensation to deteriorate and Todd will eventually lose the use of his limbs.

He is often in pain, has lost some feelings in his hands due to nerve endings dying and his legs are completely numb below his knees.

Todd and Pam have already raised more than £1,000 for the Family Fund - the UK’s largest provider of grants to low-income families raising disabled and seriously ill children.

“We are once again raising money for them as the charity is a much needed resource for many different individuals in the UK,” said Pam.

“Todd is progressively worsening, which he is very sensitive to, and knows that one day the facilities that it offers will be very useful for us. If we can do activities to raise money for the much needed charities that support the people in the UK, then everyone is a winner.

“Todd wants to do lots of things but due to his spine and his age he is unable to.

“Todd will support me in the next couple of months prior to the walk. Maybe one day he will be able to do and experience these things himself.”

Pam will take part in the wing walk, which will see her strapped to a rig on top of a plane, in June.
