The girls behind 'Daughters of shame'

A hard-hitting piece of documentary theatre by five Sidmouth College students was highly acclaimed by A-level examiners last Tuesday.

Flik Cooper, Molly Adkin, Bryony Cairns, Amy Trevett and Hannah Lane (pictured left to right) researched and devised the performance, which tackled the topics of forced marriage and honour killings among Asian women in the UK.

‘Daughters of shame’ saw them all rewarded with A grades, and three of the girls got the maximum possible mark.

Head of drama Miss Davies said: “I am very proud of them - they deserved their success.

“They worked well together and carried out extensive research, spending many hours crafting a piece that, to quote the moderator, was ‘a highly accomplished, engaging piece of docu-theatre’.”

The practical exam represents 40 per cent of the girls’ final grades.
