THREE children’s books were the inspiration for a successful dance festival among East Devon primary schools recently.

Using Julia Donaldson’s The Gruffalo, Giles Andreae’s Giraffes Can’t Dance and The Skipping Rope Snake by Carol Ann Duffy, 200 pupils from Sidmouth, Sidbury, Newton Poppleford, and the Honiton area, were led in a series of imaginative and fun dance sequences by student sports leaders from Sidmouth College.

School sport coordinator, Ross Gillon, was impressed with the sports leaders’ effort and enthusiasm and said: “It’s not an easy job to engage, entertain and control a huge crowd of five and six-year-olds in front of your teachers and peers, but the Sidmouth sports leaders really put their hearts and souls into the task at hand and did a great job.”

The sports leaders led a series of successive workshops during the day and visiting primary pupils had a dance-tastic time.
