TWO junior teams from Sidmouth Primary School tied for first place in the annual Rotary Youth Speaks competition last week.

Nine teams took part in the contest at St John Ambulance hall, Sidmouth, last Thursday, five juniors, three intermediate and one senior.

Judges commented on the high standard of speaking, said Sidmouth Rotarian Iain Macmillan.

All the junior teams were from Sidmouth Primary and their second and fourth teams tied for first place and will compete in the area final next Tuesday, February 7.

The winning topics were Do we need plastic bags? and An Olympic waste of money!

Intermediates were all from Sidmouth College and the winner’s subject was Technology is moving too fast.

The seniors from King’s School, Ottery St.Mary, also got through to next week’s area final.

Parents and teachers filled the hall to give their support during the competition.
