Sidmouth students supported their African equivalents’ education by donating books they no longer needed.
When the juniors’ library at St John’s School was modernised they found boxes of books that were unnecessary for teaching or old editions.
Rebecca Colwill, head of junior school, and Amy Kerr, Year Two class teacher, realised that they could be good resources for other countries which were developing their primary education schools.
The books were taken on by Exeter-based, volunteer-run Book-Cycle, and they will be delivered to Ghana in the next two months.
A spokesman for the school said: “It was worth the hours spent sorting out these books knowing that they are going to a good cause and that children in Africa will have the opportunity to enjoy so many books that have already been enjoyed by students at St John’s in Sidmouth.”
