Student counsellors at Sidmouth College are setting out to make the online world a safer place.

The school now has 30 ‘cybermentors’ – youngsters taught to offer peer support to those who would rather talk to another young person if they feel troubled or upset.

The training followed a national anti-bullying week in November last year, an initiative to tackling bullying in all its forms.

Danielle Brewster, 15, said: “The training was amazing and I learnt so much about how to help other young people.

“I have always wanted to help people, and now is my chance.

“I really hope to be mentoring lots of young people soon and that I can help beat bullying in the future.”

The students were trained last Tuesday were awarded certificates and business cards to acknowledge their achievement.
