A fancy dress competition, decorated rafts and beach huts, barrel rolling and the Lugger Racing were among the highlights of this year’s Beer Regatta week – along with dinghy sailing races, rowing, kayaking and canoeing.

“It was fantastic!” said spokeswoman Hellen Follett, “People came from far and wide.”

From Saturday, August 11 until the 17th, there were events on and off the water. Sunday was ‘Funday’ with traditional games for children, and a barbecue raising money for the Puffins pre-school. The main regatta day, Thursday, saw the fancy dress and decorated raft and beach hut competitions.“The fancy dress was amazing, people were really imaginative, “said Helen. “It was the best I’ve ever seen in my life.”

There were rafts representing the Magic Roundabout and the Napoli, and a group of ladies who dressed as bumblebees and turned their hut into a beehive won the beach hut contest. “We rounded off the week with a magnificent firework display,” said Helen.
