Organisers of a festival held in Sidbury just once every seven years are celebrating a record-best turnout for the event.

More than 1,500 people attended Sidbury Flower Festival, and the streets were lined with traditional bicycles and barrows decorated to advertise the event at St Giles’ Church.

Several people opened their gardens to correspond with the festival.

The church was also decked with stunning floral arrangements which followed the theme of major world events and breakthroughs between 1914 and 2014.

Several of them incorporated wartime essences, including a floral display depicting a World War One trench and a detailed World War Two exhibit.

Organiser Sarah Hills-Ingyon said such a vast turnout for Sidbury was ‘fantastic’.

Sarah said: “The help and support given by so many both in material support, visitor numbers and behind the scenes has made this whole event just incredible. A big ‘thank you’ to all involved does not say enough.”
