A vet has to come to the rescue of a gluttonous grass snake that got stuck in a drain grate after gorging on a frog.

Sidmouth Veterinary Practice surgeon Richard Jones tended to the reptile, lubricating and gently manipulating it to free it unharmed.

And an hour later it promptly regurgitated its meal – a frog that fared less well.

Richard said it was one of the more unusual cases he has had to deal with since the surgery opened last month.
