Heigh-Ho Heigh-Ho, it is up a mountain they go. Team Snowdon White and the Seven Sids are set to embark on a gruelling three peaks challenge for charity.

Last year, a number of members, from the Sidbury Fireworks Committee had the idea to tackle the highest mountains of England, Scotland and Wales within just 24 hours.

They then rallied the support of their family and friends and formed a team of eight, who are all set on raising £1,000 for Sidmouth Living With Cancer.

Mark Bishop, who is one of the eight trekkers who will be taking on the challenge on Saturday, September 23, contacted the Herald to ask for its readers’ support.

Team Snowdon White and the Seven Sids will be walking a total 23 miles as part of the challenge in which they will climb 3,064 metres (10,052ft) – this is the equivalent of climbing the Eiffel Tower 10 times.

The team will also have a 462 -mile drive between Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland.

Mark will be joined by Alan Derryman and his partner Gwenan Paewai, Ollie Derryman, Rodney Cross, Rocker Sheppard, Jud Lascelles and Jake Voss.

Mark said: “Everybody has been touched by cancer or knows somebody that has.

“We thought this would be quite a good day to raise some money.

“Mad Dog (Dave Maddock) was quite a good friend of mine and had cancer.

“We have all been touched by it and really wanted to do something for a local charity.

“We have been training and getting ready. We have been walking up to seven or eight miles at a time and have also been doing circuit training twice a week.

“If we get good weather it should be good. We are not underestimating it though.

“It is going to be hard, but we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Mark also thanked Martin Banks and his mum Kitrina Bishop, who will both be the designated drivers on the day.

So far the team has raised around £225 towards their target.
