The event was started by Angie and Mick Carney as a way to bring together those who would otherwise be alone at Christmas, for lunch and entertainment.

Emma Donovan took over last year but says she has to step down for personal reasons and is hoping to recruit a new leader to ensure the community event continues. The 40-year-old said she would encourage a small group of up to four people to come forward to take over different areas of the event, from ordering the meat and vegetables to organising guests and volunteers.

Emma added: “It really is an easy event to run, Angie saw to that, and with all the fantastic volunteers it goes so smoothly on the day. It would be great to find someone, or even a small team of three or four people, to run the event to make sure it continues this year and in the future.” Email sidmouthcommunitychristmas
