Blueprints for the creation of a new physiotherapy department, rehabilitation unit and gym were supported – provided a bin storage area is covered and well screened.

Councillors did express concern at the loss of three parking spaces in Blackmore View.

Plans submitted by the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust include the formation of a new entrance and canopy on the hospital’s eastern elevation.

The physio department, rehab unit and gym will be constructed within the hub of the hospital and occupational therapy will be moved towards the existing entrance.

The new entrance and reception will be sited where the kitchens are now.

Kitchens will be relocated further along the building.

It is also proposed the existing physio outbuilding is demolished and car park redesigned with a new exit in Blackmore View.

Plans have received two objections from nearby residents in All Saints Road and May Terrace.

They have respective fears for the impact on their home and traffic concerns.

The town council’s planning committee discussed the application at a meeting last Wednesday.

The district council will decide the fate of proposals.
