IF you want to encourage the next generation to get into recycling - start young!
That is why Bertie Bulb was pleased to bump into 20-month-old Rufus Smithson on Sidmouth seafront.
Rufus, of York Street, was taking in the sea air with mum Melanie when they caught sight of Bertie waddling along the Esplanade.
The mascot has been visiting towns in East Devon to remind residents that they can recycle their energy-saving light bulbs.
This is thanks to a partnership between district and town councils and recycling specialists Recolight.
In Sidmouth, mini-bulb banks have been placed at the town council’s offices at Wooclombe House and in reception at the district council’s Knowle HQ. One can also be found at Ottery Town Council’s Old Convent home in Broad Street.
Energy-saving light bulbs need to be recycled with care and cannot be placed in the ordinary household recycling due to the mercury used in their manufacture.
