Cycle give way signs look set to be introduced in Lympstone at the junction of Station Hill and The Strand.

A safety audit report on the Exe Estuary Trail has recommended the move and also given consideration to introducing miniature give way signs on sign posts at the location.

The recommendations have come following the launch last year of a cycle safety group of Lympstone residents who have been collating near misses and accidents on the cycle path.

Devon and Cornwall police said the Cycle Path Action Group will leave books in the post office and local businesses where people can log any incidents or near misses.

  • There are signs on the cycle path requesting dog owners to keep their dogs on a lead but some ignore the polite request ......do we need firmer advice ?

  • I think a report a rambler log book should be made available in the post office too. Also T shirts with "we walk 4 abreast" or "I don,t use the Green Cross Code" would sell like hot cakes to a vast majority of the villages pedestrians! Perhaps the cycle path should have continued along the cutting, this would have enabled us cyclists to avoid having to venture into it's uninviting depths of the village! Maybe the whole village should be made a 20 mph zone, cars pass my door in Longmeadow road daily at 50mph + and my front door opens onto the road. Vehicles in the bottom of the village travel equally as fast and park wherever they see fit. I'd rather be hit by a speeding cyclist than a speeding car. Is there a report book in the post office for that? Perhaps they should try cycling the Exe trail if they want some real fun, dogs running free, extendable leads across the track, unsupervised tots on scooters, ramblers blocking the entire path etc etc Trying to please cyclists, walkers and drivers will never be easy, until that time comes I,ll keep ringing my bell, thanking pedestrians for moving over, whilst still being scowled at for my mere existence and sticking to no more than 29 mph through the village!!
