The team at Exmouth Mussels is waiting with baited breath to hear if they can sell their produce abroad.

Exmouth Mussels owner Myles Blood Smyth recently entered the Marine Stewardship Council’s accreditation scheme for sustainable and environmentally beneficial fisheries.

Award holders can show the MSC badge, showing customers the shellfish has been ‘ethically and sustainably produced’.

Mr Blood Smyth said the assessors were due in March with the results being revealed in the late summer.

He said the accreditation would allow Exmouth Mussels to begin selling their produce in places such as Holland and Belgium.

“The assessment takes about nine months and is an in-depth study of all the criteria essential to win this world renowned accolade,” he added.
