A group of ladies has cooked up a storm and raised £800 for an Ottery charity with their favourite recipes.

The Tangent Group created a cook book of tried and tested recipes, selling the to friends and family and handing the proceeds to the Ottery and District Help Scheme.

Jan Mullen from the women’s group said the idea came from their chairman, Monica Highnam, who wanted to raise money for the help scheme.

Many of the women in Tangent have come into contact with its work, either as volunteers or using its services, and thought it was a very worthy local cause.

The 18 members then submitted their best recipes for a book, which was edited and crafted by Monica into the final product, which contains 108 dishes from around the world.

They initially printed 100 copies, and sold to family and friends, but once word of mouth spread about the book they had to go back to the printers and order more.

Jan said: “We put in a lot of work and were so pleased to be able to hand over £800 to such a worthy cause.”

The group invited Jane Davies, the co-ordinator of the Ottery and District Help Scheme, to give her the money on Tuesday.

Mr Mullen said of Monica: “She was thrilled to bits to give that amount of money to the help scheme.”
