A joint police and public stakeout to catch vandals who targeted chickens kept on an allotment at an Exmouth primary school has failed to identify any culprits.

Brixington police said there had been ‘several’ occasions at the end of last year where the pupils’ allotment area at Brixington Primary School had been ‘maliciously’ damaged.

In an attempt to catch those responsible, the police have stepped up night patrols in the area.

Officers have also spoken to local residents, asking them to be extra vigilant - reporting any disturbances or anyone acting suspiciously in the Brixington area.

The school has also stepped up its own security measures in a bid to thwart any further damage.

PC Simon Blyth said: “Police and adults who work at the school have hidden in the area on dark evenings waiting for any perpetrators, which has presented us with nothing.

“The police have issued letters to all houses surrounding the area, for as many eyes and ears as possible to be vigilant to any future attacks.

“Nothing substantial has arisen from this, due to the secluded locations on the school premises where the problems have occurred.

“Police are aware of concerns here, and extra patrols pay attention to the area late at night.

“The school has locked all gates around the area, and has installed cameras and lighting with a view to prevent any further escalation.

“Also, all parents and children are aware of what has happened, should anyone responsible decide to talk about what they have done.

“The headmaster is fully aware of confidentiality and anonymity should anyone have any information to help catch those responsible.”
