Computer-savvy pupils from The King’s School in Ottery had a chance to show off their skills with a mouse when they took part in a competition to create a carol service poster for the parish church.

One-hundred-and-eighty youngsters from year seven were tasked with designing the poster using desktop publishing software – with the winning work being displayed on notice boards across the parish.

The Reverend Steve Weston paid a visit to the school last week to explain what the ‘carols by candlelight’ service on December 22 was all about.

“We went through all the entries and picked out a shortlist of 13,” said parish administrator Sue Jeacock. “And we displayed them in the church for members of the congregation to vote for their favourite. You could see they had put a lot of effort in, and it was a great opportunity to get the children involved.”
