AROUND 50 pensioners from Sidmouth got a ‘walking aid MOT’ at a falls awareness event last Friday

Age UK Devon and Sidmouth Hospital’s physiotherapy department teamed up to invite older residents to the two-hour session.

The aptly named ‘Watch Your Step’ event provided information and advice across 12 stalls at Sidmouth Methodist Church Hall.

Trish Warren, Age UK Devon’s Fit as a Fiddle co-ordinator, offered advice on activities to help older people improve their balance and mobility.

She said: “It was a great success and was very much appreciated by all who attended.

“Everybody I spoke to learnt something with regard to things like the importance of correct shoes and having their vision checked regularly. They even had the opportunity to have their blood pressure checked.

“The walking aid MOT was very popular- they all came away with brand spanking new rubber stoppers on their sticks and frames.”
