Archant

BRIGHT, warm sunshine brought out the crowds for Bicton College’s annual Lambing Sunday event, held on March 16.

This year there was canoeing, an assault course, equine displays, a dog agility course and arts and crafts to keep around 5,000 visitors entertained, but Bicton’s Home Farm took centre stage.

Here excited children – and equally enthusiastic adults – were able to meet, greet and coo over this year’s piglets, calves and, of course, newly born lambs.

“Lambing Sunday’s a fantastic event – we come every year,” said Delia Pemberton, from Exmouth. “My grandparents were farmers and being around the animals brings back such happy memories.

“And just watching the children’s faces when they get to hold and feed the lambs is a joy.

“The students put so much work into the day, too. They’re a credit to the college, and an inspiration for anyone thinking of going into agriculture or animal husbandry.”

“I am delighted that so many people came along to enjoy themselves,” said David Henley, the college’s principal and chief executive.

“The weather reflected the atmosphere as it was such a bright and uplifting day, with families experiencing the many activities and adventures that Bicton has to offer.

“Local traders, students and staff all worked extremely hard to make the day memorable for young and old alike, and we are already working towards next year’s Lambing Sunday event.”
