Plans to convert former Sidford pharmacy into flat

Plans to turn the former Sidford pharmacy into flats have been put forward for consideration.

The applicant Ian Barlow has submitted proposals to East Devon District Council, seeking permission to convert the former Lloyds Pharmacy, in Church Street, into two apartments.

The property, which has parking spaces to its rear, has been vacant for more than three years.

Permission is being sought to build two one-bedroom flats, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor – it is hoped the development will help with the lack of affordable homes in the village.

The apartments would also have separate access points.

Sidmouth Town Council looked at the application at its latest planning committee meeting and voted in support of the proposal.

The committee’s chair Councillor Michael Earthey said: “It has been on the market for quite some time and it has become obvious that it is never going to open up as a shop again.

“It is a very good use of the space and it will provide necessary accommodation for young people and will help keep the village alive.”
