Police have launched a safety campaign for the festive season called ‘The 12 Days of Christmas Advice’ which include a dozen crime prevention messages.

There is one for each of the 12 working days over Christmas and New Year, and will be released via the force’s Facebook page, Twitter account and website.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “The aim of the campaign is to provide information and advice about public safety over the Christmas period in a concise and festive way.”

The messages will include advice on alcohol awareness, keeping yourself safe, the dangers of drink driving, Christmas shopping and domestic abuse.

Deputy Chief Constable David Zinzan said they are based around the common crimes and issues officers face around Christmas, adding alcohol often plays a major factor.

He said: “We are encouraging people to keep these 12 messages in mind and keep themselves and their friends and families safe this festive period.

“We want everyone to enjoy the festive season and for it to be a happy time of year. Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly remain one of the safest places in the UK to live and we want to keep it that way.”
