Pub premises repairs are of “utmost importance”

A BID to mend structural issues at an historic town-centre premises that is home to a popular pub is of the “utmost importance”, according to a planning application.

Proposed remedial works to the south gable wall and first-floor joists at The Black Horse in Fore Street will also safeguard its future and protect the public and neighboring buildings, say blueprints.

A planning application to the district council describes how the building has shown signs of “cracking and movement” over the years.

It is stated in proposals: “The proposals for both the internal and external works are of the utmost importance to ensure the longevity of this Grade Two listed building. The structural works need to be carried out to ensure the safety of the neighboring properties, the public and retention of the building.

“The works are not detrimental to the building and aim to work with, and retain as much of the existing historic fabric as possible.”

Plans also include a pair of new windows on the south gable.
