RNLI seeks Beer volunteers and other news

The RNLI is looking for volunteers to run its hut, by the Jubilee Gardens in Beer. Read this and more.

HUT HELPERS: The RNLI is looking for volunteers to run its hut, by the Jubilee Gardens in Beer from March 22 until October 27.

Current vacancies at the souvenir kiosk include Sunday mornings and afternoons, Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings, or to cover holidays. To help out, call Audrey Tims on 01297 20048.

MOST IMPORTANT MEAL: Beer Sailing Club is holding a big breakfast on March 15 from 7.30pm until 11.30am. The meal will be in aid of Cancer Research UK.

GRIZZLY GATHERING: With the multi-terrain race looming, Beer Social Club is holding a pre-Grizzly run get-together.

It will be a chance to meet contestants, and there will be music provided by Beer band the Barries.

Admission is free and the club hopes it will be supported by Guinness.

ARTY INVITE: Branscombe’s biannual art exhibition has announced a preview evening on March 28.

The exhibition, in the village hall, will benefit Sidmouth Hospiscare and Seaton League of Friends, and other local groups and organisations.

Admission will be £6 on the door, plus a raffle and tombola, but organisers recommend getting in touch to avoid disappointment.

BRANCH OUT: The National Trust is helping prune and shape Branscombe walkers’ knowledge of trees with an identification event on Sunday from 2pm until 4pm.

It will begin with a talk in the rangers’ office, then weather-permitting, a walk around the village will put the lesson into practice.

It is suitable for anyone over 12, and no previous knowledge is necessary, but booking is essential, as is suitable outdoor footwear and clothing.

ISLAND INSIGHT: Mark Edmonds is continuing the Branscombe Project’s Winter Lecture series with a talk about an island group off Scotland tonight (Friday) in the village hall.

‘Prehistoric Orkney: new discoveries’ will give some of Mark’s insights into his new home, where he has been helping excavate a new settlement.

Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

The talk by Mike and Wendy Gluyas that was originally scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.

VOLUNTEER NEEDED: The National Trust is recruiting volunteers to work at the Manor Mill in Branscombe for the summer season from March 24 until October 27.

The working water mill is open on Sunday afternoons and some Wednesdays.

CHARITY LUNCH: St Winifred’s Church is holding a charity lunch to benefit Water Aid.

The meal will be at Branscombe Village Hall tomorrow (Saturday) from noon until 1.15pm and cost £3.50.
