Archant

Members of the public used a police surgery this week to express concerns about uncontrolled dogs in the Byes, parking on double yellow lines in Fore Street and the safety of children crossing Arcot Road.

Sidmouth’s sergeant has hailed the neighbourhood team’s first session of the year a success after it highlighted a number of issues.

Officers are manning the Temple Street station’s reception on a weekly basis to serve as a point of contact, and being joined by representatives of other local agencies.

Sergeant Squires said: “It is important that members of the community have the opportunity to voice their concerns and also to get to know the local Neighbourhood Beat Team.

“I hope that more and more people come along as word gets around that these surgeries are being held.

“We will look into the issues raised and my team has already been in contact with other relevant agencies to discuss them.

“With regards to the issues in the Byes, we would ask that you keep your dogs in view and under proper control at all times, especially if you are running or cycling with your dogs. Obviously, pick up any dog faeces and dispose of it in the bins provided.”

Another surgery is being held on Monday (January 13) from 10am to noon, when police will be joined by the district council animal warden and a town councillor.
