A pair of self-confessed non-runners from Sidmouth are setting themselves a marathon challenge - quite literally - in aid of Help the Hospices.

Sisters Emma Wilson, 38, and Amy Clapp, 34, or ‘Sisters got Blisters’ as they are now collectively known, will be running the London Marathon in April 2015 and have set themselves an ambitious target of raising £4,000.

The pair said they are grateful for the opportunity to help a cause that is close to their hearts, as the local hospice was a great support when their dad lost his battle with cancer 16 years ago.

Emma, the founder of Sidmouth’s Funkifeet Dance School, said: “The first run was quite comical; we only did about three miles running and walking. It was a bit of a shock and we realised how much work we have got to do.”

They are keen to raise awareness as well as money for a charity that ‘changes lives’ and will be organising a host of fundraising events in the run up to the marathon.

The next of these is a cake and book sale on Sunday, October 12, marking the end of Hospicecare Week.

There will be cream teas, cakes, books and bric-a-brac at Stowford Community Centre from 2pm to 4pm.

Emma is also planning to put on a variety show at the Manor Pavilion Theatre on November, 22 and is appealing for donations of raffle prizes.
