Three contrasting gardens in Budleigh Salterton are to open their doors in aid of the British Red Cross.

The opening, on bank holiday Sunday, May 25, will provide a rare opportunity to wander in the spacious gardens of Lee Ford, to commune with the wildlife at Roundhill, and to see the new garden at Longmeadow for the first time.

Lee Ford is a small country estate on the edge of Knowle village, with extensive grounds featuring formal and woodland gardens, vegetables and herbs, a collection of flowering pot plants and climbers, as well as classical architecture.

Roundhill, established in the 1920s, is maintained entirely for the preservation of local wildlife, with native plants and wildflowers proving popular with birds and bumblebees.

Contrasting with its long-established counterparts, Longmeadow is completely new from top to bottom, having been designed in 2012, and offers a wide variety of shrubs and flowers.

The three gardens will be open between 2pm and 5pm. There is ample parking at lee Ford, allowing a short walk to Roundhill, at 11 Knowle Road, and Longmeadow, at 9 Knowle Road, with the latter also selling plants and cream teas.

Entry to all three gardens will be £5, with children under 16 free, and all proceeds going to the British Red Cross.
