Archant

A second person has died following a coach crash involving a party from Exmouth Age Concern.

Police have confirmed that the person died on arrival at Derriford Hospital.

Police have also confirmed that the previously reported fatality was a woman.

Seven other people were taken to hospital by air ambulance, and four others by land ambulance.

The remainder were treated at the scene for ‘walking wounded’ injuries.

Pauline Gaunt from the Confederation of Passenger Transport, speaking on behalf of Exeter coach operator Carmel, confirmed the incident involved an Age Concern coach from Exmouth.

In a statement on its website, Carmel Coaches said: “Carmel Coaches extends our deepest sympathies to those involved in today’s accident.

We are co-operating with the authorities in the investigation of this tragic event.”

Police say they were called to the incident on the A387 at Morval near Looe in Cornwall at around 1pm today, in which the coach collided with a hedge, and have declared it a major incident.

Police say one person, a passenger, has died from injuries sustained in the collision.

There are known to be a number of other casualties who are also passengers, but police say the severity of their injuries is not known at this time.

The coach was carrying around 40 people, who police say are all believed to be aged in their 60s and over.
