Temperatures in East Devon could dip to -5 tonight.
Devon County Council’s gritters are out in force this afternoon as freezing conditions continue to hit the county.
The lowest road surface temperatures are expected in North and East Devon, dropping to almost -5C.
Overnight frost and ice is likely on Devon’s roads.
Gritters have already started treating the county’s main routes and they will head out again in the early hours.
Secondary routes will also be treated today and tomorrow, meaning that more than 2,000 miles of the county’s salting network will be treated over the next 24 hours.
Run-off from the heavy rainfall throughout last night and today is likely to turn to ice and the county council is warning that driving conditions could be hazardous, particularly off the main precautionary salting network.
Temperatures could struggle to rise above freezing tomorrow daytime and road users are being advised to take extreme care when travelling.
