BUILDING HISTORY: Beer has a new research project to look at the old Beer build that starts on Tuesday (January 29).

Anyone interested in the history of the buildings in the village can visit the Balcony Room of the Mariners’ Hall from 7.30pm.

Funded by the Foundation Centre, it is a new Beer heritage project for 2013.

FIRST PLACE: Newspaper The Independent chose the walk from Beer to Branscombe as its number one coastal walk in the country.

The article’s author, Sarah Ann Harris, said: “This amble along the Jurassic Coast is perfect for dog-walkers,” and that pubs at either end, the Anchor Inn and the Mason’s Arms, are recommended on a canine-friendly website.

HITTING THE RIGHT NOTES: Beer’s annual music fundraiser is back on February 2 at the Mariners’ Hall.

Music for Life will be raising money for Cancer Research, with a table-top sale in the morning and bands playing through the evening. The sale runs from 9am until 1pm and tables can be booked for £8 by calling Annie Boalch on 01297 21305.

Tickets for the band night are £8 in advance from Annie or the Post Office, or for £10 on the door.

ZUMBA NUMBER: The RNLI’s main fundraiser, SOS Day, is tomorrow (Saturday), and Beer’s branch hopes it will help boost its profile.

The Lyme Regis Lifeboat Crew will be joining a zumba exercise session at the Mariners’ Hall from 10.30am until 11am, with a suggested donation of £2.50.

There is also a ‘Brew for the Crew’ in the venue from 10am until 12noon, when tea, coffee, cakes, raffle and RNLI items will be available. The branch is in need of volunteers for the souvenir kiosk in the village.

ENTERTAINING ECOLOGY: Three ecologists will be delivering a pair of illustrated talks on the birds and the bees next Thursday (January 31) from 7.30pm.

BAGS and the Beer Heritage Society are hosting Exeter University’s Humphrey Sitters’ presentation on migrating birds and bird ecology, and a bee-keeping talk by poet Rowland Malony and apiculturist John Hewson. Entry to Beer Social Club is free, but donations will be requested for nibbles.

PANTO PLEA: Beer’s pantomime this year is Three Little Pigs, from February 22 to 24, and they need more performers. The organisers are keen to get children involved in the opening chorus and throughout the show. Anyone interested should contact Tina Bishop on 07900 807350.

FESTIVE FUNDS: Christmas lights that go up every year at a Beer house has help keep the lights on at a charity.

Brian Sanderson decorated his home to grab the attention of villagers and passersby and raised £477.22 for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

GALA CENTENARY: 2013 is Beer Regatta’s centenary and the committee had their annual meeting to discuss their plans for the year on Tuesday evening.

Last year’s event featured sea shanties, a fishing competition, dances and talks for young and old.
