The course will cover specific preparation techniques, such as how to slice an onion and the importance of choosing the correct variety, the significance of marinating meat for different curry dishes, and the intricate formulas associated with mixing Indian spices.

Confirmed foodie Helen Griffin has already tried some of Denley’s expert tuition. She said: “I learned how to make the basic curry sauce, which is the basis for all curries. Depending on the dish ordered, the relevant spices are added to it. We made tamarind chicken, pilau rice and onion bhajis with various relishes.

“I usually have a problem cooking rice where the grains don’t separate – but with their guidance I managed to cook the perfect rice.

“They went through the various spices and their characteristics – ie Tamarind is sour, so we included jaggery in the tamarind chicken to counteract the sourness.

“And they talked me through the various flours and what they are used for, such as chickpea flour being used to make the bhajis.

“At the end, all the dishes were beautifully presented and they were delicious.”

Suitable for anybody interested in Indian cookery, from business people, yummy mummies and dads to team-building events and hen/stag nights, Denley’s Curry School will open in the new year on January 23 and will run every Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday in their very own, intimate VIP room from 10am to 4pm.

Taking a maximum of five per booking, the VIP room kitchen will enable all students to work on the practicalities of curry-making with personal tuition from Denley’s highly trained chefs.
