OTTERY’S Christmas fun day and late night shopping extravaganza was a great success.
Shops were packed to the doors and there was plenty of entertainment for everyone.

The event was organised by Ottery St Mary Chamber of Commerce and recent years have seen it go from strength to strength.

This year was no exception as more businesses joined in the fun, with shopkeepers dressed up in pantomime garb.

Viv Abbott, chairman of the chamber of commerce, said: “It went brilliantly, we had the biggest turn out we have ever had and the atmosphere was wonderful.

“The people that came said it was the best they have been to.”

Viv added she would like to thank everyone involved for their support.

A torch lit procession wound its way from the Parish Church to the Marist Convent for the official ceremony and Ottery St Mary Primary School pupils sang carols to the assembled crowds.

Phylis Baxter, from Ottery Tourist Information Centre, said: “The children sang beautifully. “It was a really wonderful day for the town.”
