SIDMOUTH sparkled on Friday when the town’s Christmas lights were switched on for the first time this year.
The stylish blue and white themed lights, supplied by Torbay Display, helped bring festive cheer to the town centre after a ceremony in the Market Square next to Fields, which once again pulled out all the stops for its fantastic display.
The lights are paid for out of Sidmouth Town Council’s funds, with a donation from Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce.
Town council chairman Tom Cox said: “It was a beautiful evening as it was low key this year and a really family and child-orientated evening, which is what Christmas is all about.”
Father Christmas was on hand during the evening to bring a smile to the faces of assembled children of all ages.
Mr Cox said the event helped launch the festive season in Sidmouth and showed how much fun the community could have when it came together.
He thanked, Nat West, Tile and Pine, Monday’s Child, Hayman’s Butcher, Fords, Pure Indulgence, Browns Wine Bar, Potbury’s, The Ship Inn, Jimmy Green, Harrison-Lavers and Potbury’s and Edinburgh Woollen Mill for supplying the power to the lights.
