THE family of a young Sidbury man, killed in a car crash last weekend, have paid tribute to their ‘laid back, popular’ son.

Harrison ‘Harry’ Templeman, of Hillside was travelling in the back of a friend’s car when it left the road and hit a tree near Branscombe Cross on the A3052 at approximately 2.30am on Saturday, July 7.

The 20-year-old was rushed to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, where he died two hours later, with his mother Linda by his side.

The driver of the blue Nissan Micra, Harry’s friend since they were young boys, suffered serious but not life threatening injuries,
Harry’s girlfriend, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, suffered a broken wrist.

Ms Templeman said: “We are devastated, but people have been coming around non stop giving us support since it happened.

“Friends, neighbours and relatives have all been in touch, people do not know what to say, and what can you say?

“But the support has been wonderful as it takes your mind off what has happened.”

Brother Jack, 17, and sister Layla, 13, both remembered Harry as a friend and typical big brother.

Jack said: “We had a lot in common and both loved football. Harry was an Arsenal fan and I am not, it could be fun on a Saturday afternoon.”

Richard Jell, Harry’s step dad said: “He had not really started his life and it is a terrible loss. He was a sociable lad and popular and we will miss him.

“If there is a lesson from all this it is to live life to the fullest as you never know what is just around the corner.”

A note, given to the family from Harry’s friends Stu, Kush, Ben and Mark, said: “To captain Harry, forever in our hearts, never forgotten.

“To all the good times we had together and all the memories we have. We raise a glass to the one and only Harry Templeman.”

The family thanked police and staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, saying they had been very supportive.

“We would like to thank everyone who has rallied round,” added Ms Templeman.

Julie Capewell, deputy principle of Harry’s old school, Sidmouth College, said: “Harry was a friendly and likeable boy who had a large group of friends and enjoyed his time at the school.

“Our thoughts and care go out to his family.”

The family will be announcing details of Harry’s funeral service and wake at the Balfour Arms in Sidmouth at a later date.
