In the summer of 2018, the Mighty Green certainly got around.

Tim Swabrick took on the Lanzarote Wine Run along with 491 starters, and completed the 12.7k (7.7 miles) in one hour and ten minutes, coming in at a very respectable 171st. If that position didn’t make him happy there was always the wine to fall back on.

John Sharples walked 170 miles with his wife and two friends. They hiked part of the Camino Way from Astora and arrived in a very wet Santiago De Compostela.

By the end of the hike his only complaint was a creaky back. However, the photo would have us believe that he had just set off on a quick jaunt. Great achievement on what looks like a fabulous route.

Also flying the green flag, with four runners of other nationalities, was Paula Farrand, who joined in with the hotel’s running club on a tour along the waterfront in Stockholm.

Kerry Boyle went on a mission, checking into a total of five different European countries on her mammoth Mighty Green tour, including a three-mile jog in L’Escala in Spain, chasing her children who were cycling along the promenade.

She got very hot doing eight French miles on the Pussan de Montbazin cycle track. Then just when you are getting a taste of the solo Mighty Green flag flying thing in Peschiera del Garda (Italy) running around the lake, two more MGs show up in the form of Els Laureys and David Chipping.

Where was your green shirt David? The fourth outing for Kerry’s Mighty Green shirt was a very hilly one in Insbrook, Austria. Then to a cooler 1000 metres up into the Black Forest of Germany and a slower five-miler in the dark, mysterious wet woodlands of Sankt Georgen im Schwarzwald.

Hopefully, Cath Miller didn’t get too dizzy, whilst giving the Mighty Green a spin around the block in the 32 degree heat of that early morning sun in Portugal. If she wasn’t dizzy after that, then the advice given to partake in the consumption of an ice chilled beer would have made her so.

Naomi Garrick left it to the last day in Gozo, a beautiful island off Malta, before trying some running. However, the Mighty Green on holiday found it too hot for running but perfect for a stroll along the coast and observed how the locals produce salt.

Alison Long, who only joined the club’s Beginners Group this year, took her ‘Pink is the new green’ shirt to France and enjoyed a morning run in the sand dunes of Ile D’Oleron.

Thankfully, finding the way back to the campsite through the dunes was a success. She thanks everyone for all the encouragement given since joining SRC and that she couldn’t have done it without us… turns out she did do it without us.

It was bagpipes and tartan in the great town of Inverness for David Skinner, who, as you all know, continued his alphabet Parkrun quest while on holiday in Scotland and 20 miles further on up to the Alness Park Run and enjoyed a 1st birthday anniversary Park Run with cakes.

Sporting the mighty green for a morning run while on holiday in Gran Canaria was Antony Hall. He decided on an early morning session and to be finished by 8am before it gets too hot! He finds running at slow speeds impossible.

The evidence in the times shown on Strava were an impressive eight miles in a time of 57:47, which means an average speed of ‘bat out of hell’ time – or, more plainly seven 10-minute milers!

Mighty Greens were also on display – and in action – worn by Sally de Gruchy and Toby in Jersey, by Debbie Marriott and Don Cawthera in the Azores and Adrian Clode took his Mighty Green shirt sailing on a yacht in the Seychelles.
