There can be few better ways to blow away the Christmas and New Year festivities, with a fabulous day at the races.

There will be eight races on offer, with a start time of 11.30am.

It promises to be another action packed day, with the Moores of St Wenn Ltd-sponsored members’ race opening the day’s event.

This race could see area champion jockey Darren Edwards coming back to ride after his injury sustained in November. He is set to ride Robin de Souza for the Dean Summersby team. Robin de Souza has already scored a hat-trick of wins at this course and also added a men’s open race to his CV when winning at Black Forest Lodge last March.

He looks hard to oppose among the seven entries which include two course debutants Doumba and Starweld. Hops Oils Ltd sponsor the PPORA novice riders race, and entries, include the Jennifer Davenport owned and trained Mic’s Delight. A 20-length winner here back in December, Mic is a game little horse who always tries hard for his jockey’s and is rarely out of the frame. He will relish the soft going and will be the likely pacesetter.

Another team Summersby charge, Chosen Lucky is set to line up against him, but will need to improve on his 20-length second he scored at the last meeting, under novice jockey Bryan Carver. The Ed Walker-trained La Madonnia is another who could improve on her second here at the previous meeting and stalk the leaders up the tough hill home to try to snatch this. Prolific winning course specialist Sobre Tresor, from the Chloe Newman team, is on seven wins to date at this track and is entered in the Skinners Pet Foods-sponsored ladies’ open race. With the booking again of Chloe Emsley to ride, the combination looks hard to beat. The five-year-old Broadclyst, from the Robert Chanin team, won his maiden here in December and looks a progressive type to take the Three Cornish Farriers-sponsored restricted race.

Kivells Auctioneers and Valuers sponsor the men’s open race which could see the Levinson team’s Premier Portrait defy top weight and win again under jockey Gus Levinson. Gus is currently riding out for the Paul Nicholls team in Ditcheat, and Gus was unsure Premier Portrait would be fit enough last month. He could well come on for the run, and with the highly rated Supreme Danehill also among the entries, they may need to step up to the likely challenge.

Two divisions of the open maiden follow. The first is sponsored by Stephen Scown Solicitor, and those with previous form are Tamarstone, Ruby Fool, Ballybruff and Druid Spitfire. Whilst in the second division, Earthy Reason and Fouroclock Fox have clocked up notable form.

The final race of the day is The Nare Hotel confined race, which could be a tricky race for the bookies to predict with four entered. The Two Amigos won here in December for the Nicola Martin team and could see jockey Darren Edwards add to his score sheet. Beuvron, for owner Charlie Stanley, could run well for team Holdsworth and is the highest rated.

The course offers great viewing and a huge covered barn containing hot refreshments, bar, bookies and trade stands. Location is off the A39 ,west of Wadebridge PL27 7JE. Entrance is £10 per person with children under 16 free. Dogs on leads welcome. For up-to-date information, visit the website Pointing DC and Facebook.
