There are seven races on offer which have attracted over 70 entries. This is a popular course for maiden horses and we are bound to see some stars of the future emerge from having their debut runs here. Mitchell & Webber sponsor the open maiden race, which is the first race of the day due off at 2pm.
Entries include the Katherine Hawke-trained Speronimo, who is the highest rated having run a good second at the Axe Vale meeting last month.
Five-year-old debutant The Jitterbug could be an interesting horse for the future, coming from trainer Keith Cumings yard. The Spar-sponsored conditions race follows in which the Lisa Jefford-trained Master Baker stands out having won a Hunter Chase at Taunton and a neck second in another Hunter Chase at Exeter last month. Also, Fly West out of Ed Walker’s yard could follow up on his recent win at Stafford Cross.
Pentilly for trainer Joe Tickle and Way Point for the Big Brooke team both stand out, having the benefits of light weights in the Jockey Club Mares maiden race.
Fifteen runners are entered in the Kivells-sponsored mixed open race, which has attracted a quality field and includes Master Baker (if not running in earlier conditions race), five-time winner The Two Amigo’s, previous winner here Awesome Tunes, Golden Hoof for the Jade Barber team, and Double Captain, who is already on a hat-trick of wins this season.
The Tremaine Plant Hire-sponsored confined race has Honest Deed entered for team Summersby, who will be looking for a follow up to his win last weekend at Flete Park.
The restricted race is sponsored by Dunbie with Earthly Reason standing out after his win at this track two weeks ago for the Big Brooke team. Finally up is the C & S Perkins open maiden race with entries Gerties Garter, Speronimo, and Mole Trap all having finished in second place on their runs this season with connections hoping to see some improvement on that form.
This course offers fabulous viewing and a great party atmosphere attracting families enjoying picnics. On course facilities are hot food and refreshments, bar, bookies and trade stands.
Entrance to the course is £10 per person. Children under 16 go free. The course is located at St Columb Major signed off A30 & A39. TR9 4LP
