Pony racing heads up the action at noon with the main race card commencing at 1pm and no fewer than 145 entries have been received.
There are six races on offer with the Simpkins Edwards-sponsored mixed open looking to be the feature race of the day and will be hotly contested. Entries include Bistouri D’Honore, Hoof, Fly West, Navanman, Pink Eyed Pedro, and Minella Fifty, all winners this season.
The Penbode Vet Group-sponsored conditions race is the curtain-opener in which the Ed Walker entry Fly West holds an entry, along with the Summersby team’s Honest Deed, who has already clocked up four wins this season.
Another Summersby entry could appear in the Coodes Solicitors-sponsored restricted race in which Clondaw Bunny could follow up on his maiden win at Great Trethew, Just Another Vodka and The Coffee Hunter are two others with strong claims. Outside raider David Brace has three entered in the novice riders race: Pink Eyed Pedro, Robin des People and William Money. Any of these should be respected if turning up here and they could come up against Bistouri D’Honore if connections chose this race over the mixed open.
Bistouri D’Honore has won three times this term under jockey Ed Doggrell, who is booked to ride him here. In the three-mile open maiden race Jill Dennis’s Deise Gold ran well on debut with a promising third at Trebudannon, but this could go the way of the Pauling Geering-trained Mountain Las, who deserves a win having finished runner-up on four occasions this season.
The final race of the day is the two-mile four furlong open maiden in which Eggardon Hill stands out having just been denied a short head at Little Windsor recently and is the highest rate. Sapphire Noire is another to have run well when finishing second at Trebudannon.
On-course facilities include hot food and refreshments, bar, bookies and several trade stands. Entrance is £10 car and driver and £10 per passenger. Pedestrians are £10 with children under 16 free. The event is located at Upcott Cross, 2 miles South of Halwill junction off A3079 Postcode EX21 5AE.
