The racecourse takes centre stage on the Sunday with more than £100,000 in prize money and the prospect of top class racing to enjoy.
Add to that, terrific savings on tickets, with a pair of pre-booked Grandstand and Paddock tickets just £15 (children aged 17 and under go racing for free), and it’s all systems go for a superb weekend of sporting entertainment.
The meeting has proved a stepping stone in the past for some of racing’s brightest stars. Last year it was Finians Oscar who lit up the racecourse following his foot perfect performance in the listed novices’ hurdle. That run proved the perfect stepping stone for Aintree where he won the Grade One Betway Mersey Novices’ Hurdle. Perfect Candidate took the Veteran’s Chase and added Cheltenham’s Grade Three Betvictor.Com Handicap Chase to his haul in November. Other notable horses include the Harry Fry-trained Unowhatimeanharry, who won the 2016 Pertemps qualifier and went on to taste victory in the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
In 2015, Randox Grand National victor Many Clouds galloped home to a three-quarters of a length’s success in the 2m3f novices’ hurdle and other noteworthy winners include Melodic Rendezvous, Vieux Lion Rouge and Vibrato Valtat.
Live music will add to the atmosphere at a race meeting which is firmly established as a favourite among the Westcountry’s sports’ loving fans.
General manager Jack Parkinson said: “With the start of the spring festivals just a month away, this meeting is always immensely popular both with trainers who use it as stepping stone for their horses’ final preparations, and with racegoers who come along to enjoy a Sunday afternoon of really great sport with a superb atmosphere and a real feeling of camaraderie. It’s a great meeting and it’s always a real treat seeing really good horses in action at Exeter.”
The first of seven races comes under starters’ orders at 2pm. A free bus leaves Exeter St David’s at 12.20pm and the Bus & Coach Station at 12.35pm, returning half an hour after the last race.
Children aged 17 and under race free. To pre-book tickets, call the ticket hotline 03445 793 005 or book online at Exeter-racecourse.co.uk
