With the worst of the winter hopefully behind us, the golfing fraternity have been taking to the course at Sidmouth.

Before the birdies, pars and bogeys, however, the club held a dinner dance, organised by 2023 Club Captain John Jones, who, in conjunction with the Deer Park Hotel, put on an excellent four-course meal, followed by dancing until midnight for 70 club members.

The proceeds generated £500 towards this year’s Club Captain Alan Billinghurst's charity, the Admiral Nurse in the Sid Valley fund.

Last Monday's Stableford saw Terry Coldridge topping the leader board with an excellent 45 points from, in second place, John Barnard on 41 and David Hall in third on 40. On Friday, the club Stableford was won by David Fitzhenry posting a solid 41 from Russell Bess in second place.

In the Inter Club Winter League between Sidmouth, Lyme Regis and Cricket St Thomas, Sidmouth were just six points behind final round hosts CST, but the home team came out on top with 272 points, Sidmouth had 236 and Lyme Regis 216.

The shield was won by the very strong CST team who were competing in this league for the very first time with 761, 42 points ahead of Sidmouth, with Lyme finishing 3rd. Leading scorer for Sidmouth was Brian Rice with 37, with Len Wright returning a creditable 34.

It was a frosty start to the day but wonderful ‘Spring like’ temperatures as the day progressed for another round of the ladies Rose Bowl and Basket Competition held on February 8. Course conditions are now good and recovering after the very wet weather but the greens were challenging after being ‘hollow tined’

Coming first, and winning on countback, with 34 points was Vanessa Ireson, narrowly beating Liz Chance. Susan Hackett, the new Lady Captain in waiting, was in third position with 31 points.

It was a dry and mild day for the County Prize competition and some great scores were seen in the clubhouse on the ladies return from their play.

Coming in first, with a fantastic score of 43 points was Mandy Furniss. Maria Clapp was second with 38 points followed by Gill Johnson, keeping up her winning streak from the previos week, came third with 34 points.
