On reaching the Sector A final of the County Triples, Sidmouth trio Jan Jameson-Bates, Anita Mason and skip Zena Johnson played against a strong team from Honiton on the neutral green at Budleigh Salterton.

It was an extremely close game, with the score at the penultimate end being Sidmouth 13 Honiton 12. Zena was two shots down and needed to get a shot for the win or a second wood for the draw, which would then have forced an extra end. Unfortunately, this wasn't to be and Honiton kept the two shots to win 14 - 13.

No shame in losing by just one shot but you then start wondering, where could I have made an extra shot earlier?

In the men’s over 60's League the Sidmouth bowlers took on Isca's Gold team. For a few ends, Sidmouth men held their own at 43 -39 but it didn't last, as Isca upped their game dramatically and, at the finish, won on all four rinks with a total aggregate score of 93 - 54.

Isca are a large club with eight rinks, against our three, and also have the advantage of attracting members from all over the City of Exeter, and beyond. The men’s loss was almost a repeat of the ladies’ Foxlands match against Isca last week at, 93 – 55, although the ladies did win one rink to avoid a whitewash.

To finish the week, Sidmouth men played yet again against Kingsley (Westward Ho!). This time it was in the Devon InterClub. After the great result against Kingsley in the County Trophy Knockout, we were hopeful of another win.

At home, the rink of Chris Ward, David Butler, John Mason and skip Brian Smith had a good win 21- 14, while the rink of Martin Jenkins, John Richards, John Chew and skip David Timms finished with a credible draw of 16 all.

Away from home, sadly, it was a different story, as both rinks lost by unmentionable scores. Some of our key players were not available to play, but whether they would have done better or not, who knows?

However, we must thank those that played instead. Let's hope the large losses hasn't put them off for good.
