Last week was almost a very happy one for Sidmouth bowlers, as the ladies played very well before suffering a narrow defeat in the County Foxlands League, although they did take more than half the points on offer.

This time, the opposition was Dawlish and both away rinks did extremely well by winning their matches, and Sidmouth also had one winning rink at home. The total aggregate score was in favour of Dawlish by just six shots, Sidmouth 65 Dawlish 71. However, winning on three of the four rinks did give Sidmouth six of the ten points available.

The away rink of Mary Turner, Brenda Somerfield and skip Jill Bishop won 19–11, while Jean Brimson, Marie Timms and skip Carol Smith won 16-14. At home, Jan Jameson-Bates, Anita Mason and skip Jane Painter triumphed 18-16.

This season, the League was split into two, as the thought was that 14 teams would be far too many for just one league. Having played five games so far, Sidmouth have just one left to play. Sidmouth were pretty poor against two teams but pretty good against the other three, banking six points from each of them. So with just one to play, the hope is to finish midway.

Also this week, Sidmouth men played their final game of the season in the Over 60's League. This was against Mid Devon (Tiverton) and, at 16 ends, Sidmouth men were in front overall by 9 shots. Sadly, they couldn't maintain the lead and finished just five shots adrift, with the final score Sidmouth 70 Mid Devon 75.

However, they won on the away rink of Wilf Radburn, John Chew, David Timms and skip Brian Smith, 21-18. The home rink of John Richards, Phil Meadows, Bert Hague and skip John Mason managed a good draw at 18 all.

Club Competitions are progressing well, mostly being down to quarter or semi-finals. The finals are scheduled for the week following Easter.
