The spring netball season kicked off in style last weekend, with the Sidmouth players sporting new netball dresses courtesy of the generous sponsorship of Kylie Howitt beauty studios and Oak Mead Golf.

Having won the Winter League Division 2, the U11s have two teams battling it out in the top division for the first time. First up were the Swallows with a strong 3-1 victory against TTNC Hydra.

Next was an all-club line-up with the newly promoted Swifts which, whilst scoreless at half time, saw the Swallows get into their stride resulting in a final 3-0 victory. By now, the Swallows were on a roll which they continued with a tight 2-2 draw against TTNC Apollos and a comfortable 4-1 victory against CCNC Cubs.

As debutants, the Swifts battled hard across all six of their games with a notable close 1-0 loss against AVNC Magma and a secure 2-1 win against CCNC Cubs. The coaches were impressed by the competitive nature of the Swifts play and look forward to their progression as the season develops.

The U11s then made way for the U12 Ravens to take to the court resulting in some very tense and competitive match play. The first two games went the way of the opposition with our girls losing 3-4 in both games. Next up was a rather more one-sided affair with a strong Ravens victory beating Exmouth 8-1.

The final game saw a 4-7 defeat to TTNC but the coaches were extremely pleased to see their training being put into practice and look forward to seeing a reversal of results next time they get on court.

For those interested in joining Sidmouth Netball Club, they are particularly keen to see an uptake from Year 7 girls (U11s). There are also a couple of spaces for girls in both the U12 (Year 8) and U14 age groups (Years 9 and 10). For those in the younger years, the club encourages girls to come and give it a go regardless of experience. For the older years, some experience of netball is appreciated in order to help new members slot into the current teams.
